First Official Image from Superman “Man of Steel” 2013

Superman First Look

So this is the first look, Other than the many leaked set images from the movie that is filming in ILLINOIS right now. What do you think?

At first glance, One might think:

-The CG looks shitty. What is up with that vault door?
-Where is the Superman Curl?
-Is he on the set of Mad Men? That Hair looks mighty slick.
– That suit looks a little SCALY!

Now let me SexSplode my fucking pants and tell you why this image is so boss awesome I’m going to blow the back of someone’s head off ,WITH SPERM,  when I’m at the theater in 2013 watching this movie!

1. This Image really does say enough to speak volumes about the direction of the film. The dark intensity that is going on in this image separates it from the failed Superman Returns film that still haunts my dreams! Superman will definitely throw at least 2 punches (one per villain) in 2013. I honestly think that this is a promo image and not something actually from the film itself. Although it could be the very first overlay for a green screen shot if actually part of the film, which is possible.

2. Due to previous leaked images we do know that the curl will make it’s appearance in the film. I for one would like it to be dedicated specifically to the Clark Kent half of the persona, finally getting it out of my eye sight when I’m looking at a super hero.

3. I like the scaly suit. I like the idea of the suit being alien or Mrs. Kent coming across Blue Lizard Scaled garb in the middle of an Illinois thrift store. The suit being a tad bit different is refreshing and the time that was put into it to make it look as bad ass as it does was time well spent. The character couldn’t stay 100 percent cotton for the rest of his days. It just doesn’t hold up in space.

4. The Cast and backing power are INSANE for this film. The Cast of this film is overpowering right down to the lesser players. Here’s a quick rundown per FILMONIC.com‘s official press release from WB:

The film also stars three-time Oscar® nominee Amy Adams (“The Fighter”) as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, and Oscar® nominee Laurence Fishburne (“What’s Love Got to Do with It”) as her editor-in-chief, Perry White.  Starring as Clark Kent’s adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, are Oscar® nominee Diane Lane (“Unfaithful”) and Academy Award® winner Kevin Costner (“Dances with Wolves”).

Squaring off against the superhero are two other surviving Kryptonians, the villainous General Zod, played by Oscar® nominee Michael Shannon (“Revolutionary Road”), and Faora, Zod’s evil partner, played by Antje Traue.  Also from Superman’s native Krypton are Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s mother, played by Julia Ormond, and Superman’s father, Jor-El, portrayed by Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”).

Rounding out the cast are Harry Lennix as U.S. military man General Swanwick, as well as Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy.

Morpheus is Perry White, Maximus is Jor-el, THE MOTHERFUCKING POSTMAN IS Papa Kent! It honestly brings a tear to my eye. A tear of joy….OH and wait!

5. The PRODUCER POWER

“Man of Steel” is being produced by Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder.  The screenplay was written by David S. Goyer, from a story by Goyer and Nolan, based upon Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster and published by DC Comics.  Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.

I KNOW YOU MOTHERFUCKERS SAW WHAT I SAW!!! Chris Nolan is not only the Godfather of this project and Producer, but he and David Goyer (DARK KNIGHT) team are back together for this. That doesn’t mean it is automatically going to be good, but it definitely means that two competent people are at least at the table when decisions are being made.

More to come on this as it develops…. Let me hear your critiques!

-TSTI OUT!-

P.S. Anyone notice how short this is compared to my other articles? Crazy, I KNOW!

First thing, I and many others thought Superman Returns was a good movie and Brandon Routh was a great Superman. I expect this new Superman to be good also and I think we can do without Lex for a while.

    • As I said, I think it was a good movie, just not a good superman movie that gave the fans what they wanted. It was nowhere on the gravitas a superman movie should be but there were things I liked about it. We shall agree to disagree. Thanks for stopping by and leaving your thoughts! come again.

      • and about brandon routh. I am a big fan of his, but I was not a fan of them telling him to act like he was christopher reeves and not bring his own flavor to the table. He got the role because he looked like reeves, but he was cornered by the directors “vision” of an homage and sequel. Should I do a superman returns review to get my thoughts organized? I love going off on it. Let me know.

Has anybody seen anything about Lex Luther? This cannot be a Superman movie without Lex….

    • I have not heard any news on Lex Luthor so far, but I think it may be for the best. They have beaten Lex into the ground so many times that I think one movie without him, or bringing him in as a movie ending cliffhanger would set up the film nicely without having to have him involved the whole time. I don’t think I could take them doing him wrong again.

  • Wow! Tell em how you really feel lol!
I personally have no issue with anything you’ve stated other than your breakdown of the Joker. I do feel like they got it just right but they took away a little of the zazz from the comic books to make it so he was really smart, but you didn’t confuse his intelligence with being completely psycho babble. HOWEVER as you’ve stated. I’m wrong, so I won’t go on that one. Maybe in person.

I Agree with the reboots and NOT NEEDING TO SEE THEM ANYMORE!

The Greaser look is definitely off putting at a glance but if his hair is down or he brushes it back and it looks like that naturally as he is fighting and getting slammed into a vault door, I’m okay with it. As stated, the CURL is in the movie just not this image.

I don’t want a “punch everything superman”. I also don’t want a superman that doesn’t throw a punch (SINGER!!!) and flying around crying on himself like a fucking pussy.

I also don’t want other NON heroes being more heroic than the main character like Lois Lane’s BF in returns. I just want him to punch something and mean it. Returns was a good movie. It was a horrible SUPERMAN movie.

About them not upgrading the suit. I Don’t wish for things I know they arent going to do. The only real change to the superman suit in movie media is going to be in like 2075 when we are all dead and can no longer enjoy it.

I may actually add your comment to the main article. Offers up some opposing flare!

I still remain skeptical of Zach Snyder. I’ll try to break down on what you have:
    1. While the image does speak volumes that this won’t be a gay man’s video note begging jesus to accept him, oh whoops. Let me start again. While this image does speak volumes that this won’t be an allegory ridden romp through father problems, and an attempt to comment on religion without having the balls to say anything outright by Brian Singer; I remain skeptical that it’s intent could be the overly mindless action ridden style’s that raught so much crap that is Sucker Punch. Regardless of how I feel on Nolan, Goyer, or Snyder, I remain hesitant to say that Superman Returns got everything wrong, or that badass “I HIT YOU” Superman would be all that great of a thing.
    2. Agreed. Spit curls are dopey. But so is that Socs vs Greasers look he’s sporting now. It’s Superman. Not the fucking Outsiders.
    3. I hate the scaly suit. Mostly because it doesn’t look scaly it looks like the same tired crap design they used for Toby Mcguire’s Spiderman suit. Octagon Patterns do make the muscles more “comic booky” but they are also over used and it’s time for someone to make a new design. Also, I don’t like the 90 pound paperweight that is the S symbol. All of these comments go the same for the Superman Returns suit as well, don’t get me wrong. I like the cape though. Seems like all the costume departments for WB/DC can do anymore to innovate is make a really cool cape. (Or segment the rubber. OH MY DESIGN!)
    4. The cast and backing for this is insane. I like who they picked down to Russel Crowe somehow being Jor-El. Seriously. How do you go from Marlin Brando, to: “Oy I’m a Bloody Spanyad Oy!”. I don’t know. I guess the old saying: if it looks to good to be true: it is, is ringing loudly in my ears instead of excitement of who is playing who. Amy Adams is going to be a trash Lois. I promise you I will be rolling my eyes at her overly hokey liberal, nasal whining portrayal of what is supposed to be the last of the strong women, not the damsel in distress.
    5. This one will piss a lot of people off because I’m the only person in the world that didn’t really care fully for Pretentious Protector, oops again, I mean Dark Knight. Nolan is still over-rated as a writer. He’s a terrible writer. His major successes come from being a fantastic director and knowing some amazingly well done source material to get a script together (Inception not included, that’s another rant. No, it’s not as deep and awesome as you think it is. It is smart though). As far as I’m concerned the Goyer/Nolan team MURDERED the Joker. Not Heath Ledger. He did great. However, making a sociopathic, disgruntled, genius with anti-institutional tendencies that matches his chosen foe’s psychosis due to a chemical accident into a common “I like bombs and fire” terrorist with obsession, is dumb. And gay. And no matter how much you try to tell me “it was to make it more realistic”, you are incorrect.
Overall, I’m just plain skeptical. I don’t think DC has any idea what they’re doing anymore. Mostly because the next Batman Movie will be the last of Nolan’s (and the only reason I’m even going to see it is Tom Hardy as Bane) before the RETCONNING happens, it mostly means nothing they do in these movies is going to matter. At the end of next year they will be restarting the franchises again, because both Superman and Batman will be 25. And if my hate of seeing Spiderman’s origin story for the 8 billionth time (and let’s not act like you don’t get it EVERY issue of Spiderman you read, YES, CHRIST, RESPONSIBILITY, POWER SHUT UP!!!) is any indicator, I’m too damn old to start over AGAIN.
We’ll have to wait and see the trailer, I guess, to really know why the hell Zod is coming back again and what’s happening with Supe’s illegitimate kid being that they never stopped the continuity for these movies, but never decided which films were part of said continuity either.
